What Fred Johnston said on Facebook back in 2015 about 'Earth to Earth' after its arrival on the shelves:

Fred Johnson (Facebook 15/05/2015)

A very fine and beautifully-designed collection of poems by MATT MOONEY arrived today, 'Earth to Earth.' I confess a bias as I have written, with Patrick Deeley, a modest introduction on the back cover. These poems are marvelous by any standards, rooted in the earth, tales and memories but without the languorous nostalgia. Matt is a true follower of and believer in poetry as a distinct spiritual voice and reminds me very much of the late Michael Hartnett in some of his work. Published by Galway Academic Press, it is in paperback, ISBN: 978-9928-04-254-5, at €10. Great poetry from a true gentleman-poet.

Praise for ‘Earth to Earth’, by Tom Bannon

A Brown Envelope Arrived In the Post & It Wasn't A Bill.

Could understand novels, short story writers like Frank O'Connor but could never understand poetry and at school use to switch off during poetry classes until I was introduced to the work of Paul Durkin and in recent years Skryne's Conor Farnan and the writing of Matt Mooney ( who I met through FB ). Suddenly it was poetry I could relate to and I was hooked and can now only marvel at these wordsmiths and their observation skills.

So was delighted to receive in the post a book of poetry 'Earth To Earth' from the poet Matt Mooney due to be launched at Listowel Writer's week on Friday May 29th 2015.

This is Matt's third collection of poems and I am absolutely loving flicking though the collection with each poem I hit upon even better than the last.

Incredible poems that will bring you back in time like 'A Penny Mender'.

Next time you are waiting for someone or just sitting on 'A Seat' get scribbling as Matt shows there is a poem in every encounter, nice love poem 'By The ATM', lovely twist in 'The Countryman' and loved ' The Busker' & 'Face to Face'

. Beautiful and sad observations in poems like 'Street People' & ' Day Room'

.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words but in only a few lines Matt who is a master in his chosen art form, captures and paints beautifully his encounters with the world of nature all around him with poems like 'Rabbits', 'The Leveret' & I laughed at his poem 'Fox On The Hill' - we've all been there Matt.

Best of Luck Matt with the Launch. It's a beautiful collection and long may you continue this fantastic writing.

The Collection ' Earth To Earth' is published by Galway Academic Press, it is in paperback, ISBN: 978-9928-04-254-5
